........The unique style of Dimitris Kapsomenos is based on the traditional Cretan music, which is preserving till nowadays the similarity with the ancient Greek music. Composer linked the archaic features of the Cretan music – monodic mode system, modality with the stylistic tendencies of “the Second Wave” of the New Classical movement of the 20th century. Being the pupil of the Carlo Prospery who initiated The New Florentine School of music composition Kapsomenos had developed his ideas of the “tonal doubt” and of the “free seria”. As the result his music has the unrestricted mode system and could be comparable with the adventures travel in space and time of the music culture.

In 1992-1993 Iryna Riabchun collaborated with Dimitris Kapsomenos. For the several time she had played to composer his suite “Cretan Land” «Κρητικά Χώματα» and 9 fantasies versions of “The marine” Θαλλασινά») suite in his House in Athens.  She also performed the solo recitals (Khania (Crete), Athens) organized by composer. Some of that private and public Iryna Riabchun’s piano performances were audio and video recorded personally by Dimitris Kapsomenos and now preserved in his Archive. Two weeks before his death (in December 1993) composer personally gave to Iryna the unpublished last 5 fantasies of “The marine” suite. She was one of his few guests to whom composer for the first time had read the program of “The marine” in his house in Aharnon street (Athens) in the eve of the Saint Dimitriy in November 1993.

Iryna Riabchun was the first pianist who performed all of “The marine” suite (Larissa, Greece, 1994) and who had recorded it among the other works by Dimitris Kapsomenos for the Greek State Radio Program for classical music (Τρίτο Πρόγραμμα) and for the Greek Television (ET-1, THLE-TORA) and in the CD. In 1993 –2002 Iryna Riabchun performed works by D.Kapsomenos in Greece, Ukraine and Indonesia. The following project by Iryna Riabchun is dedicated to the piano heritage of the Greek composer Dimitris Kapsomenos (1937-1994) who belongs to the third generation of the New Greek professional school of the music composition and represents in it the Cretan Region. He graduated from the Khania Benizelos Conservatory (Crete), National Conservatory (Athens) and from the Florentine Conservatory Luigi Cerubini in 1975.
